Saturnine Launch Box and Edition Impressions!

After months of wafting through cringey advertising and "Grognard Gaslighting" (tm) - the Saturnine launch box and 3rd Edition Horus Heresy is here!  

It's exciting to actually have some Legions ready for the new edition and get some games in ASAP.  Though, though the community freaked out (per usual) about things, I'm surprised to even find myself pleased with most changes that were made.  

There's a LOT of plastic in this box.

Granted I will say to new players, the books are not an easy read.  As some who used to edit automotive technical papers; the writing is only a couple levels lower in terms of density.  Don't let this detract anyone from enjoying this game though.  We find a common theme amongst our friends is with this ruleset, it takes a couple read-throughs, but once it clicks... IT CLICKS. 

The rulebooks are beautifully done and retain the same look from 2nd Ed. (I still need the Mechanicum one I know...)

I will pour one out for Rite of Wars, Allegiance specific rules, and Instant Death; as from my brief overview, they seem paired down (in the case of RoWs) or completely removed. Which is a shame, since they were some of my favorite elements from last edition!

As an aside, the new edition being announced threw a gigantic servo-wrench into our content plans for Horus Heresy.  Now that the release has come and gone - HOPEFULLY things calm down and I can pump out videos on our channel for 3rd.  Either way, hope everyone is enjoying Saturnine Saturday/Sunday as much as us!

Yes, unfortunately, my first "real" post for this blog is going to be a largely negative one (spoiler alert).  It's not all doom and gloom, but it definitely is not an ideal situation akin to the world we live in. First off - shout out to Games Workshop (aka GW).  It must be said 2025 is the year where they really leaned into the "brain rot" and have some of the most cringe-worthy advertising ever presented.  "BIG HATS HURRR" is definitely... a way... you could try to convey excitement(?).  Though, I will say "Horus Hearsay" was way worse.  The Preface  Onto talking about the Chaos Dwarves proper, or Helsmiths of Hashut as they've been branded for Age of Sigmar (AoS)...???  Yes, it should have been a release for The Old World, and I need to preface, this was an army for ME.   I have been waiting 5+ years for this release, as I am not only a shameless Chaos-stan, but also a lover of Dwarves in all Fantasy media.  So THIS was a huge, culm...

Welcome to Tabletop Trash Talk!

If you are new to tabletop wargames and need to read about the unpopular opinions of a gamer in his mid-30's, welcome !  You are in the right place! For the uninitiated, I (Rafiq) run a Youtube Channel called Swolehammer .   We're focused on helping new and returning players into the hobby, however, not all topics fit nicely into a video nor do I have time to record audio and edit videos for random asides... that is where Tabletop Trash Talk comes in. Expect reviews, ramblings, and  more!  We usually try to have a positive spin on most things, because the negativity in this hobby is incessant and unbearable.   Though I will fire shots off myself from time to time (usually at the player base).
